TAKEAWAYS FROM THE YEAR 2020

Image
2020 has been a tough year around the globe. Characterised by the lethal Coronavirus pandemic along with various natural calamities, the year- end holiday season doesn’t feel the usual. But as it is said, every cloud has a silver lining! So instead of lamenting, here are a few reminders and lessons from the passing year. Importance of mental health. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death brought forth the much needed discussion on mental health. It made us realise that mental well being is as crucial as being physically fit. It heralded an unsaid movement to de-stigmatise seeking psychological or psychiatric help. So next time don’t hesitate from lending a helping hand, you never know who may need it. Digital is the future my friend! From online classes to work from home, the year taught us the value of technology and online resources. On one hand it showed how technology is capable of changing our lives, for the better but on the other also highlighted the infrastructural lack Ind

TREND OF SONG REMAKES IN BOLLYWOOD

Image
Karan Johar literally spoke our hearts out when he exclaimed “ Oh God! One more remix!” In the song Ankh Marey from the movie Simbaa that ironically topped the music charts within hours of its release. There has been a visible surge in the number of remakes in the last couple of years (still growing). From Tamma Tamma to Chamma Chamma , no song has been spared, and it’s not just the yesteryear songs, but songs as old as merely a decade that are being remixed and remade. However, these remakes prove to be commercially viable with filmmakers and artists cashing onto the popularity of the originals. Music composer Tanishq Bagchi has announce his upcoming projects Sooryavanshi and Dostana 2 with all the songs being remakes. How much ever we may like to groove on these numbers, remakes foreground lack of creativity and originality on the part of the composers. Not to mention how atrocious some of the remakes turn out to be, recent example being the song Masakali 2.0 that received massive b

1. From your point of view, what makes a good picture? Ans : It's the eyes. It's all about the eyes. Even if you aren't technically strong, your image has lighting & composition flaws, if you get the right mood & expression in your subject’s eyes, you're golden. They directly connect to your soul. If you are shooting something else other than portraits then make sure there's enough dynamism in your shot. Be it lighting, texture, angle, color palette. There should always be something in your image which makes the viewer feel something.   2. Did you always wanted to be a photographer? Ans : . Yes, since I was in school, I knew this is what I'm going to do. In fact, my birthday falls on World Photography Day! 3. Are you more of an outdoor photographer or you like it indoors? Ans : . I love outdoors. Your environment can contribute massively to your story. 4. A piece of advice you want to give to the newcomers in this field. Ans : Make sur

INDIANS’ FLEXIBILITY TO ADJUST- GOOD OR BAD

Image
Ants are referred to as ‘superorganisms’ due to their evolutionary success and ability to modify habitats; and cockroaches are said to have survived the atomic bombs dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. What beats these species when it comes to adaptability is the human race, and I am not talking about not just any populace, but our very own Indians! Indians are a community that has been considered the most adaptable to any situation or change, not just internationally but by themselves as well, that too proudly so! Call it ability to adapt or get used to, the unapologetic jugaadu Indians always know how to get their way. One of the prime reasons for this is the inherent vast cultural diversity of the Indian subcontinent. People of different religious and ethnic communities, regions and language with their unique traditions, customs and lifestyles have existed under one banner for centuries. Hence coexistence of diversities or differences runs in our blood, making us more ‘tolerant’.

DOES EQUALITY REALLY EXIST IN OUR SOCIETY?

Image
Of course! After all its 21 st century! Well, when was the last time you spotted a child working at a dhaba, dismissed a beggar on the street or heard the news of yet another rape in the city? All these are examples of social inequality existing at every day basis in our lives. Equality simply refers to a level playing field for all in terms of equal rights and opportunities. Given India’s complex demographic structure, inequality is deep rooted and is played out through gender, caste, class, race, language and other such cards. The law forbids untouchability in India, but don’t we separate the utensils of maids working in our luxurious houses till date? An India Today survey conducted in 2019 shows reports of discrimination against Dalits in the village of Mahad , Maharashtra, which is ironically home to Dr B R Ambedkar, the man who himself fought against caste injustice. Many pseudo intellectuals argue that equality has indeed arrived, citing how women are working in the outs
